Drysocket? All four of my wisdom teeth were taken out three days ago, I live alone and just need advice,please

My face is swollen and I can barley open my mouth half an inch, my lower jaw hurts more then my upper. I would say my face is swollen about an inch all around. My mouth is not throbbing even when I wake up in pain b/c I have slept longer then my medicine was active. I am taking more ibprofin then the codeine b/c the codeine makes me itchy and I probably should ask my doc for different medicine but this one makes me itchy who knows what a different kind would do, and the ibprofin works just as well. I am scared I have a dry socket and am very tired of apple sause, pudding and yes even ice cream. Can anyone tell me what their healing time was and if you have experienced a dry socket what happened?

wisdom teethe are very painful but a dry socket usually tkes at least 7-10 days to develop
Reply:Hello, Ok, to begin with know this, whether it's "one" tooth or "ten" the healing period is between 5 and 6 months...That doesn't mean that you will feel discomfort that long it only means that during that healing period the gum tissue and bone will be making changes....Now, you should be applying "Cold" packs on your jaws to reduce the swelling,,,"Do Not" use a hot pack at all. I will assume that your DDS gave you antibiotics to take, take them all exactly as the directions say...You should not be attempting to drink through a straw or from a pop bottle or can. You should not be smoking..any of those things creates a suction and the suction can dislodge a blood clot and you will end up with a Dry Socket...Continue to eat soft foods. Rinse your mouth "gently" at least three times a day with a 10% salt to water mix. As for pain control medications, if the Ibuprofen works, keep taking it. Good luck and I wish you well.

and you have your amoxicillin right?


my doc gave me vicoden ex,but if ibuprofen works for you that's good news.


just keep it as clean as you can and think how good it feels when it stops hurting
