Renewing IP address problem?

ok so my internet won't work so i researched.

so i click the start button and go to run.

then type cmd

type ipconfig/release then ipconfig/renew

but when i do that, this message pops up "an error occured while renewing interface wireless network connection: an operation was attempted on something that was not a socket."

then i did some more research and i found this site

www.howtonetworking.com/ipconfig.htm

and i saw that the cause of my problem was "these issues may damage occur if the Winsock registry keys are damaged or corrupted."

now what should i do? is my computer totally helpless??

and could u tell me what to do step by step b/c i'm not computer smart. =/

please help.

Renewing IP address problem?
make sure you are receiving signal from your cable/dsl/internet company. If yes, then make sure whatever is connected to that (modem) is receiving signal from it (router/switch/pc/mac).

Now, if you are getting signal up to the internetworking devices, make sure your NIC (network interface card) is working properly.

Go to control panel and make sure the card is enabled, make sure you have the lastest drivers.

If you did all the small things here and there, such as power cycling the deivces/pc,etc and you know you have a winsock error, u need to "rebuild" the tcp/ip

Depending on what OS (operating system) you have, the commands are different. Do a search for fixing winsock errors. http://gopaultech.com/2007/01/fixing-win...
Reply:try rebooting your router and/or modem. Unplug them, wait 2 mins, then replug.
