We just replaced our old receiver with a new one b/c the other one got fried. Even when it is not on, just plugged in, it got really hot. Now I went to turn on this new one and it is doing the same thing, it is really hot from just being plugged in. Is it our cable outlet, our electrical socket, or what could it be?
Why is my Direct TV HD receiver so hot?
Maybe someone else could confirm this, but I also have a Direct TV HD receiver and it's quite hot, so I'd say it's just normal operation. The receiver is always on standby mode, so even when it's turned off it's using electricity. (It would take a while to reboot if the receiver completely turned off on normal operation).
Reply:It could be a connection issue, but I would think that it could be related to the amount of cooling air flow it's getting. If you have it in a tight space where air can't flow freely through it, it can cause this problem (especially if your home collects a lot of dust in the air). I put a small fan on mine to help move the air around and keep it cooler, but I get a lot of dust in my house, so I had to use compressed air to remove some of the extra dust.
As I see other's listing similar issues, I think a small portable fan would help quite a bit. And that one should've been designed into the casing of the unit itself.
Reply:prolly cause you watch tv waaaaaaay too much.
Reply:It stood in the heat too long?
Reply:If it is the H20 something they all run hot!!! You just have to be carefull to not surround it so the heat can't escape
