Change light swich to dimmer?

Purchased a 2 way dimmer switch by mistake.

It has a C connection as well as L2 %26amp; L1.

Is it still safe to use by connecting only the L2 %26amp; L1?

The 2 wires in the socket connected the existing switch are both red. Does it matter which way round you connect them?

Change light swich to dimmer?
there is no risk of fire using a 3way switch in single pole applications. listen to victor and enjoy light.
Reply:Take back the one you got by mistake %26amp; get the correct one. It is better to be safe than sorry.
Reply:It's unusual that the lead wires are both red - usually one is black and one is white. Disregard the C connection and hook up your reds to L1 %26amp; L2, the only thing that will change is the polarity - you may end up with the lights getting dim as you turn the knob clockwise, if that happens, just reverse the wires.
Reply:you got it now so experiment.
Reply:go get the correct switch it will not work right
Reply:Let me see risk burning down the house or exchange the switch for the correct one.

If the answer isn't obvious to you well read the rest of the answers I bet you can figure it out.

OK so this isn't a very good answer, but seriously is there any other choice return it.
