Electricians--My Timer Switch System that gives Power at a Scheduled Time ALWAYS gives power regardless..Why?

I have the Tok DG100 Digital Time Switch system which controls when power is given to a power socket...





The strange part is that no matter what time it is (regardless of the set scehdule) it always gives power to the socket. I have concluded that from the diagram on the system it shows "Output: SPDT Dry Contacts (Unpowered)"...And i see wires from the electric power going into "H","N", "NO" and "C"..non is going into "NC". What does this mean. Are some of the wires set improperly that the scedule system is not able to control proper power (on and off) at the right times?

If you would like to try a test get an old lamp that works and is in the on position. Turn the power OFF to the timer unit. Remove the wires from 'NO' , 'NC' , and 'C'. Now with a short wire terminate one end to 'H' and the other end to 'C'. With the lamp plug cut off terminate one of the two wires to 'N' and the other to 'NC' or 'NO'. Power the timer and program it to function. If this works then the wall plug isn't wired to the timer properly and if it does not work replace the timer.


Don't forget where the wires originally were.
Reply:H may be hot wire (red or black)


N may be neutral wire (white)


C may be ground wire (green)





NO is a term referred as normally open, the switch will be in the open condition until it receives the change order by the timer. In this case there will be no light until the timer changes.





NC is a term referred as normally closed, the switch will be in the closed position and should power the lights or equipment connected to this terminals until the timer changes.





Remember, this information is given only as a reference. For your safety, consult an electrician.

Reply:Timer may be equipped with a manual bypass switch lever, or setpoints may not be properly set. Sounds like the input is wired correctly. Also, try turning dial (has arrow showing proper direction) to next set period, and see what happens. Timer motor may be bad if this works.
