What pc parts must i upgrade to make it faster?

though my unit is quite 'old' but iwant to upgrade it little by little.





my pc specs are:





pentium 4 @ 2 ghz. having socket 478. (is socket 775 more effient?)


asus board P4S533(which does not support hyper threading technology)


512ram


128 video card


300w power supply





my usual interests are gaming, internet. and office prgram related to accounting w/c is connected to a network. for just only 3 PC. as am working in a small financing corp. the program just only consist of storing of client's data, issuing a voucher, reports.

I have a similar system based on AMD. My suggestion in upgrading starts with the memory. I would bump that up 512 or 1024 more. Then you should invest in some registry cleaning and tuning software; I just bought PCPitstop. They have EXCELLENT support and my system is running well enough that I kept up with everyone else at a LAN party a week ago.





That is going to be your cheapest route for now.
Reply:Memory is what you need to update ( ram) and make sure your hard drive is big enough too. You may also want to invest in a video card depending on what games you will be playing.
Reply:Get a 3ghz or higher processor. I got a 3.2, and it wizzes along. Also, for gaming nowadays, you'll want 256MB graphics or higher. They go up into the gigabytes nowadays I think...

the processor u leave alone unless u want to replace the board and the processor both togather, and go with somthing with HyperThreading and possibly duo core... and a board with a high buss speed,





other then that video,, card no... lol most u want to replace is the ram board and processor... but then ur buyin a new computer ne way right?
Reply:Please use "tune up utilities" or "norton utilities" for cleaning registry. It will make faster.
Reply:well having a 478 socket is a bit old these days your better off going for a 775 socket as it can support 64bit processing as well as higher RAM (DDR2- as you only have DDR!) which means higher faster speeds lower load times and more efficent executions of programs, for motherboard go for anything above the $150-170 mark as they support SATA (serial ata which means faster transfer speeds from your hard drive) and you will be set for the next couple of years, as for video cards go for something with a minimum of 256mb or RAM although with the release of vista coming up i suggest you wait as there will be new range of video cards which support direct x10 among other things which will be the future of gaming and higher resolution support. so all in all heres a set up you should look at


CPU: 3ghz or more


Motherboard: intel (i suggest) with a 775 socket


RAM: 1GB or more DDR2 at least somthing about 667mhz


Video card: 256mb or higher (again will be worth the wait)


Hard drive: 200gb or more.

Reply:You may want to increase your RAM to 1 Gigabyte. Try to a new video card if your board will allow a 256mb card. The processor can be changed to 3.2 GHz, but that maybe a little costly.
Reply:RAM...as much as you can afford.
Reply:1- Upgrade your video card to 256MB or 512MB but ofcourse choose Nvidia or ATI.





2- Upgrade your power supply to run that video card.





3- if you have MUCH money buy a new motherboard that supports Intel core 2 Extreme Edition.





4- Upgrade your RAM to 2GB Kingston.





PS: i prefer upgrading your video card for more gaming experience.
